HMS Queen Elizabeth (one of two aircraft carriers) was built too short to land airplanes on! When this was first found out about first production was slowed for a decision on what to do about it (using the financial crisis as an excuse for which), then after excuses were made about not having the budget to buy fighter planes for it - for they would only fly once if they did, and land in the sea when attempting to land.
First Sea Lord Jonathon Band was also removed regarding this fiasco but still sneaked a knighthood. For what? His services to underwater flying?! You don't hear much from him today and his proud boasts, from a man with an ego bigger than the HMS Q.E. itself!
